ASDAN is a curriculum development and awarding organisation. They provide flexible and engaging programmes and qualifications that help young people develop skills for learning, work and life.
ASDAN’s programmes and qualifications for secondary schools range from helping learners make a successful start in secondary education to boosting engagement and motivation, developing core skills, and enhancing academic performance.
All ASDAN Programmes:
- are learner-centred with a modular and activity-based curriculum.
- encourage young people to take responsibility for their own learning.
- are relevant to a wide range of settings such as schools, colleges, youth and training.
- recognise, reward and celebrate achievement at all levels.
At the heart of it all is the important relationship between the teacher and the young person. There are increased expectations that the voices and experiences of young people will be listened to more closely in the processes of learning. Young people enjoy doing things that interest them, improving their skills and receiving greater recognition for what they achieve. ASDAN provides resources which can stimulate ideas and be adapted for individuals and settings. Its unique approach to accreditation can capture and recognise the many subtle aspects of personal development through learning.
ASDAN is particularly well known for innovative curriculum development in the areas of personal, social and work-related learning. As well as being at the forefront of curriculum development in these areas, all ASDAN Programmes are recognised by the Department for Education in the United Kingdom. ASDAN is a remarkable success story for the teaching profession; growing from just a handful of schools in South West of England in the 1980s to more than 6,000 centres across the world (mainly schools and colleges) registered this year.
